Bon Jovi displayed Murray’s jersey number 18 on his guitar while performing a concert Thursday evening at du Arena in Abu Dhabi.
Prior to the show in the United Arab Emirates, the passionate rocker shared a video on YouTube expressing his deepest condolences to the family.
“I heard word about Evan, and as a father of football players, my heart, my prayers and my thoughts go out to the Murray family,” Bon Jovi said in the video posted to YouTube. “You are in my prayers. To all the team, I wish you the best this season and keep it up guys, all right? Win one for Evan.”
The band dedicated “Who Says You Can’t Go Home?” to the 17-year-old, who died from massive internal bleeding caused by a lacerated spleen. Murray was the quarterback for Warren Hills Regional High School in Washington Township.
Murray was injured playing a game against Summit High School. He was able to walk off the field but collapsed on the sideline.
Bon Jovi, a father of four, is an avid football fan. His son, Jesse Bongiovi, made it onto Notre Dame’s football team as a walk-on in 2013.
